Fracto Forum International e.V. Supports First Clinical Fractography Course in Chile and Latin America

On January 22–23, 2026, the First Clinical Fractography Course was held in Concepción, Chile, marking a milestone for dental education in Chile and Latin America. The course was organized by the Program of Advanced Rehabilitation and Implantology (CRAI) of the Faculty of Dentistry (University of Concepcion), and was officially supported by Fracto Forum International e.V.

The course provided structured training in clinical fractography, combining theoretical lectures with hands-on practical sessions focused on the analysis of failures in dental materials. Participants were introduced to fractographic techniques using stereomicroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), as well as systematic approaches for clinical fracture documentation.

The course was organized and delivered by Dr. Michael Wendler, Director of the Advanced Rehabilitation and Implantology Program and faculty member of the School of Dentistry. Dental professionals from Santiago, Puerto Varas, and Concepción attended the course, fostering professional exchange and continuing education across different regions of the country.

International expertise was provided by invited speakers closely associated with Fracto Forum International e.V. These included Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Lohbauer, President and Founder of Fracto Forum International e.V. and Director of the Research Laboratory for Dental Biomaterials at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg (Germany), and Dr. Susanne S. Scherrer, a specialist in dental biomaterials with academic affiliation to the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Geneva (Switzerland). The program also featured Dr. Jason Griggs, faculty member of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Dentistry, University of Mississippi (USA).

Reflecting on the collaboration, Dr. Wendler emphasized that the involvement of Fracto Forum International e.V. enabled the integration of globally recognized approaches to fracture and failure analysis of dental restorations, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and international collaboration.

This first Clinical Fractography Course represents an important step in strengthening applied research in restorative dentistry and implantology and highlights the role of Fracto Forum International e.V. in promoting high-quality education and the dissemination of fractographic methodologies worldwide.
